Apollo's Death Michel Nienhuis Lyrics

Times of prosperity are all long gone
No longer can we hold on
Realms of disappointment are being poured forth upon us for times and times

The day man decided to do his will without thought
Will once more be called upon by ancient entities
The all-ending myth that has never come to surface
Shall now be outspoken to be heard once, but never again

And as Apollo notices the earth after his long absence,
An enormous wave of estrangement enters his body.
This was never the purpose! Modernity has asked all
and gotten all...from man, not seeing beyond possible
consequences.
"And therefore", spoke Apollo, "the earth shall be cleansed
of all this rot, and it will be through my death."
("Everything erased, extinct, end through my death").

As he lay there with Ares' spear in both his hands,
man received his last light, making clear in a second
all that has gone wrong. (All has gone wrong, all that has
gone wrong).

And then Apollo, God of Light and Sun, killed himself,
and with himself all manifestations of his deity:
Karneios, Agreus, Lykios, Nomios, Hekatos, Amyklaios,
Archigetes, Paian, Akesios, Alexikakos, Klarios, Phoibos!

And only beauty remained.

We collectively failed the test
Apollo sacrificed his life for us
But unlike Jesus Christ, he took humanity into the grave
with him. Let it be so, for he should know what is best.
