REBBA 2002

The Real Estate and Business Brokers Act, 2002 and a__ociated Regulations were effective March 31, 2006 and provided a new legislative framework for the registration and regula­tion of registrants including real estate brokerages, brokers and salespersons.

The Real Estate Council of Ontario administers the Act and the Registrar is appointed to exercise powers and carry out duties imposed under the Act and Regulations. The Act encompasses various procedures and programs that were previously incorporated by way of RECO by-laws. Items such as insurance, continuing education, the Code of Ethics and the Registrar's Complaints and Inquiries (RCI) process are now detailed in the Act and Regulations.

Practitioners should access the publica­tion t__led Guide to REBBA 2002 published by the Real Estate Council of Ontario for guidelines and proce­dures relating to the Act.
