Sometimes I think English is really crazy.
My teacher was talking about verbs
which are sometimes nouns.
She said that 'walk' is a verb but 'walking' is a noun.
Do you understand that?
Maybe this example will help.
If you say " He walks to the park every morning" ,
then of course it's a verb.
But if you say " Walking every morning is good for you" ,
then it's the subject of the sentence - a noun.
So I can add 'ing' to any verb and then it's noun?
Thanks. Now, how about articles?
I know we use 'a' for nouns beginning with a consonant
and 'an' for nouns that begin with a vowel.
But when do I say 'the books'
and when do I just say 'books'?
If you are talking about books in general,
don't use 'the'.
If you are talking about some sepcific books,
then you need to use 'the'.
For example, 'Books are educational'.
But 'The books I read are educational'.
Is that clear?
Now I understand!
You make evertything sound so easy.
Can we talk about prepositions now?
No way!
Prepositions in English are too irregular for simple rules.
You just have to memorize them.
I'm still working on them my self.
