Baseball star sought in missing family mystery

A family of four living in central Seoul has been missing for the past 20 days, and police searching for their whereabouts fear they have been murdered.
Police sources said the family's disappearance possibly involves a former Korean pro-baseball player.
The Mapo Police Precinct in Seoul said yesterday that the family - a 46- year-old woman, identified only by her surname Kim, and her three daughters, ages 15, 20 and 22, have not been seen since Feb. 18. Their home is in the Mapo District.
Police launched an investigation after Kim's older brother reported the family missing last Monday. A day later, police officers said they found Kim's bloods ains at the home.
Investigators also said they checked video clips recorded by a surveillance
camera at the apartment complex on Feb. 18 and noted a man going in and out of the complex three times carrying huge suitcases. "One witness said that a man, who was carrying suitcases, was seen standing in front of a car in mid-February," said a policeman investigating the case. "We found that the car is owned by the missing woman."
Police also found several pieces of evidence at the home pointing to a former Korean pro-baseball star who is possibly involved with the disappearance of the family. "According to reports, Kim and the former baseball player have been dating since 2006 and they planned to marry soon," a police officer, who refused to be named, said.
Police suspect that the mysterious man captured by the surveillance camera is the 40-year-old ex-baseball star. Investigators were dispatched yesterday to the player's hometown, Gwangju, about 300 kilometers (186 miles) south of Seoul, in search of the suspect. The police are continuing to search for bodies around Kim's apartment and in the ex-player's hometown.
