Jake La Botz A ring for Sally Lyrics

Sunday morning she woke me with the family radio. The preacher spoke and it was so hard to bear. He preached from the latest translation in Braille at a decibel only a dog could hear. It surely was late in the day for a Christian. Seemed early enough for a young man like me. Still I knew that I needed to get something for Sally and only one shop was open on that day of the week.

A ring caught my eye down at old Zimmie's p___ Shop. The last ball was just going up on the wall. I wondered if anybody still had the ticket. He said "buried with the body if it's anywhere at all."

He said "The sick man who owned it first brought in his banjo. The second time it was his teeth that he sold. The last time I saw him he really was a-hurting...from his finger he pulled off this little ring of gold."

I asked of the cost, he said "one hundred dollars", but I knew what he meant was "are you insane?" I never've claimed to know a thing about jewelry, but I have known pain, oh yes, I have known pain.

I returned and asked Sally if she thought it did suit her. She said "No matter what I can see that it is round. You were dreaming so loud that I turned up the radio. Now you've returned and I can't hear a sound."

And she said "those diamonds are shaped like a dead flower.", as I sucked on her finger and slipped on the ring. I dared not to tell Sally of the sick man who p___ed it in the very last moment of the last day of spring.
